SOUTH AFRICAN TOUR NEW \ ZEALAND COUNCIL’S DECISION (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, September 22. In. view of the war and an inquiry from the South African Rugby Board asking for an indication of New Zealand s views on the continuation of the preparations. the council of the New Zealand Rugby Union to-day discussed the South African tour, and. decided to suggest that, unless the war ends by January 1, the tour be abandoned till it is over. ALL BLACK TRIALS MATCHES TO BE HELD AS ARRANGED (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON. September 22. It was feared to-day that it might not be possible to hold the trial matches arranged by the New Zealand Rugby Union for next week. The council of the union called a meeting of players to-day, when it Was ascertained that nearly all. those selected would be available. It , was decided to carry out, the trials next Wednesday and Saturday as arranged. , Forty-minute spells will be played m the inter-island match, arid the trials. REPRESENTATIVE MATCH TO-DAY Duller (Seddon Shield holders) will meet Canterbury at Lancaster Park this afternoon in their annual fixture, and an exciting match is anticipated. The visitors come with a reputation for good all-round play and are keen to Ipwer Canterbury’s colours. The latter, with several new players, can be relied upon to represent the province worthily. The match will commence at 2.45 p.m.
