RECRUITING IN THE CITY

SLIGHT INCREASE IN ENLISTMENTS 41 MEN REGISTERED YESTERDAY DISTRICT QUOTA NOT FILLED Although an improvement was recorded, 41 men registering, the recruiting in Christchurch yesterday was again considered to be disappointing by the authorities. The quota for the special force from the Southern Military Command is not filled, although the Army authorities had hoped that recruiting would improve. A recruiting rally will be held at Lancaster Park to-day before the representative Rugby football match, and the recruiting office in Hereford street will remain open until 9 p.m. Medical boards yesterday examined 172 men in Christchurch. A cabled report that a New Zealand volunteer unit was being trained in Great Britain was confirmed td-day by the Minister for Defence (the Hon. F. Jones).
