OFFICIAL FORECASTS (THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, September 22. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m., by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing;, with the 24 hours following the timWitef issue, is as follows: Moderate to fresh southerly winds predominating. Weather cold and unsettled with rain prob- , able and some snow on the higher ; levels, hut improving from the south. Seas moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate southerly winds. ... Weather cold and showery at first but improving. Seas rather rough but decreasing. DOMINION The forecast for the Dominion is:— Farther rain probable in the South Island and rain gradually ' spreading over most of the Dominion. Some heavy falls likely but conditions later improving from the south-west. Temperatures becoming colder with the southerly change and snow probable on the = higher levels. An extensive depression is centred a short distance to the west of the Dominion while = another is developing near Norfolk bland. An intense anti-cyclone ■ covers Eastern Australia. Winds: Moderate to strong northeasterly in the far north and southeasterly in the far south. Elsewhere moderate and rather variable. Freshening southerlies later advancing from the south. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER After a dull morning, light raid began to fall in Christchurch in the late afternoon and continued intermit- ‘ tently. There was a strong southwesterly wjnd in the morning, and a light south-westerly in the afternoon. The maximum temperature during the day was 48.3 degrees.
