' a widower, employed by the Public Works Department, fell from a path on the side of a steep cliff and dropped 600 feet to his death. , . . Porter was not noticed to be missing until Monday evening when, with Constable Andrew, a search was made. A sack found on the track gave an indication of the . whereabouts of Porter and searchers went to the oottom of 'a steep face and there found his body. The task of the searchers was a difficult one, and after bringing the body to the. track by means of ropes, it was necessary to carry it on a stretcher three and a half miles to send it to Gisborne. Porter was formerly well known as a jockey and had ridden some champions of the New Zealand turf, notably Count Cavour. He is survived by one married daughter. INJURED IN SOTOR COLLISION When his car collided with another at the corner of Marshland road and Shirley road .late yesterday afternoon, Mr A. D. Brooker, of Bealey avenue, suffered head injuries and shock. He was admitted to the Public Hospital. CYCLIST HURT Alexander Jones was treated as an put-patient at the Public Hospital after having suffered minor injuries to his head and nose, which he received iVhen his bicycle collided , with, a motor-car at the corner of Manchester street and Armagh street yesterday.
