Mrs Herbert P. Lawry (Palmerston North), who came to Christchurch for the Purchase—Levvey wedding a few weeks ago and has since been visiting Invercargill, has returned home.
Miss Marjorie Curlett (Hastings), who visited Christchurch during Grand National Week, has left for a visit to Australia.
Miss F. Street, formerly principal of Hillcroft Residential College for Working Women, in Surrey, England, after a tour of New Zealand, left Auckland yesterday by the Monowal for Sydney. Mrs James Pearse (formerly Miss Barbara Stedman. of Auckland) and her husband have been spending their honeymoon in Scotland, mostly golfing at Gleneagles. They will leave London for Bombay on September 6. Mr Pearse is assistant traffic manager of the Great Indian Peninsula Railway. Miss E. Brown (Ashburton) has joined the staff of the Buffer Hospital, Westport, as night sister. , Miss Mary Christophers (Cambridge) is visiting Miss Jean Bailie, Westport.
Mr and Mrs J. R. McKenzie (Roydon Lodge, Yaldhurst), who are visiting America, will arrive in Auckland about September 18. Mrs S. J. Gordon and her daughter, Miss E. Gresson, have taken up residence at 20 .Kinloch street, St. Albans.
Mrs A. L. B. Ross (Fendalton) is the guest of her, mother, Mrs E. B. Pilcher, Invercargill. Mrs Sarsfield Flood (Dunedin), who' is visiting her sister, Mrs W. Evans, Cashmere Hills, will return home to-day. Miss I. M. Jamieson, who has been visiting Great Britain and Canada, is expected to return to Christchurch this morning.
Mrs Lance Jewell (Papanui road) has returned from a trip to Sydney. Mrs Maxwell Ramsay (Kaiapoi) is spending a short holiday with the Misses Ramsay, London street, Dunedin.
Miss Ada Inman, who was the guest of Dr. E. Baker. McLaglen, Cashel street, returned to Fairlie yesterday.
Miss Joan Lee (Beverley street) is visiting Hawke’s Bay. Miss Margaret Scott (Dunedin) is visiting her mother, Mrs J. M. Scott, Timaru.
Miss Zona Blaikie has arrived in Timaru from Wellington to visit her parents, Mr and Mrs W. S. Blaikie.
Misses Norma Stone and June Hill' (Methven) are the guests of Mrs Clement Knight, Peterborough street.
Mrs W. A. Day (Gloucester street .West) is visiting Mrs J. S. Hislop, Dunedin.
. Mr and Mrs F. J. W. Billings arrived , yesterday in Christchurch, where they will spend a few weeks before taking up residence in Ashburton. i
A distinguished visitor to New Zealand in November will be Sir Harry Lindsay, K.C.1.E., C.8.E., director of the' Imperial Institute and an enthusiastic member of the Victoria League. He will leave London in October for a tour of the Empire and expects to be in Christchurch from November 18 to November 21. Sir Harry will be entertained in Christchurch by the local branch of the Victoria League. Miss M. G. Havelaar and the lady editor of “The Press” gratefully acknowledge gifts of carpet, an electric heater, and other articles from Miss Wilson, Clifton, Sumner, for the pensioners’ cottages, which are to be opened on Saturday morning.
