TO-DAY’S NEWS IN BRIEF * OVERSEAS HUNGARY’S POSITION The London "Daily Express” says Hungary has refused Herr Hitler’s demand to allow German troops to cross her frontiers and have free passage against Poland and Rumania In the event of war. It is stated that the Hungarian Foreign Minister (Count Csaky) vainly pleaded with Signor Mussolini on the subject during his visit to Rome on Friday, but H Duce advised him to accept at least the bulk of Herr Hitler’s demands. It is reported that Hungary will shortly declare "benevolent neutrality” to Germany, showing 1 -r willingness to place her agricultural products at Germany’s disposal, but refusing to be bound by any military commitments. NEW ZEALAND JOBS FOR SEASONAL WORKERS Five hundred Jobs are available in Canterbury and n the West Coast for Christchurch men who are at present out of work because. of the closing down of practically all seasonal work. This was announced yesterday by the Minister for- Labour (the Hon. P. C. Webb). It would be necessary, said the Minister, for men living in towns to accept positions in the country where useful work was available.
