TOPPER’S COMEDY
High Spirits of Constance Bennett And Roland Young
The high spirits of Thorne Smith, whose stories have been taken for the Topper films, have been exactly caught hy the players who take the parts of ;the chief characters—Constance Bennett and Roland Young—in the film ■•Topper Takes a Trip," beginning toijay at the State. It will be rememijered that the meek little banker, Cosmo Topper, was taken in hand by the Kerbys, who had been killed in a motor accident and who had to do a good deed before they could continue their fun-loving existence—even . in ectoplasm. In "Topper" they led the Wt little man some strange dances. i]tnd now Marion Kerby has decided that her good deed will be to help the Toppers (Mrs Topper is Billie Burke) to be reunited after the divorce her pranks have already threatened. To do this she finds it necessary to hound poor Topper unwillingly to France in pursuit of his wife. So to the sunny sands of the French Riviera from Park lane Constance Bennett goes visibly and invisibly by turn at the heels of Mand Young. With her is the famous ik/Ulas. one of the best known dogs i/Titowood. Kbf P nce there are numerous comfjr Jhs with a penniless baron who
pays marked attention to Mrs Topper, there are vegetables thrown by unseen hands, sudden appearances and disappearances of a beautiful young woman, and enough muddle and mystery in general to make a thoroughly satisfactory sequel to “Topper," The supporting players form a brilliant cast —Alan Mowbray, Verree Teasdale, Franklin Pangborn, Paul Hurst, and others. Paramount are planning another epic fantasy in "Dr. Cyclops." The Cyclops, according to mythology, were one-eyed monsters. The film is to be directed by Ernest Schoedsack, who made "King Kong." * * * Sam Goldwyn will star a new actress called Margot Stevenson opposite Jascha Heifetz in "The Restless Age,” Margot played the same part as Jean Arthur in "You Can't Take It With You" on the New York stage. « * * Eddie Cantor has bought the rights to a French film called "Forty Little Mothers.” Ginger Rogers is just about to start work on her American version of another French film, "Little Mother."
