OBITUARY
MR H. F. PENLINGTON
[THE PRESS Special Service.]
AUCKLAND, March 16,
A well-known retired educationist, Mr Henry Frank Penlington, died at Whakatane. Born at Akaroa, Mr Penlington passed through the Christchurch Training College and was appointed to schools in Taranaki. Returning to Canterbury, he became headmaster of the Leeston School and later held a similar position at Fendalton and Wharenui. In 1926 he was appointed headmaster of the Island Bay School, Wellington, and finally to the Richmond School, Christchurch, from which he retired some years ago. For a long period Mr Penlington took an active part in the work of the New Zealand Educational Institute. He served as president of the Canterbury branch and in 1930 of the Dominion body. He was also teachers’ advocate in grading appeals, and later teachers’ representative on the Grading Appeal Board. On retiring from, active service he was made a life member of the institute.
Mr Penlington was prominent in athletics as a young man, and for the last 30 years of his life was an enthusiastic golfer. He leaves a widow and tantiVy.
