VISITS PAID BY NURSES DONATIONS FROM SUBBRANCHES Mrs J. Cracroft Wilson presided over a good attendance of members at the monthly meeting of the Christchurch branch of the Plunket Society. A donation of £25 was received from the Malvern branch, being the annual Beatrice Knight contribution to the Karitane Hospital. A donation of £lO was received from the Ellesmere subbranch, as its annual contribution to the Karitane Hospital, and £2 was received from the Greendale sub-branch. A donation was received from the Christchurch branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union as a mark of appreciation for the use of the committee room. Thanks were expressed to Mrs P. H. Wood for the gift of a flower bowl, and for bringing and arranging flowers during physical fitness week, to Mr M. J. Barnett for flowers sent in during that week, and to Mrs Wanklyn and Mrs McGregor for clothing. For the Plunket rooms, Nurse Allan reported as follows:—Pre-natal section: New cases 15, return visits 104. cases under observation 102. Postnatal section; New baby cases, city and suburbs 111, out-stations 16. Visits paid by nurses to homes: City and suburbs 524, out-stations 68. Visits to rooms—Central; 1083 adults, 682 children; suburban; 1511 adults, 1510 children: out-stations: 225 adults, 214 babies, and 43 older children. Pre-school children—New cases 10, number of visits 177, children under supervision 1340. During physical fitness week the rooms, which had been open to visitors for the week, had been made attractive with bowls of flowers, fruits, vegetables, and posters advocating health measures. Miss Dolton had given an address to mothers on “How to Prevent Problems in Children.” Recent overseas visitors to the rooms had included Dr. Hare and Dr. Lepper, two women doctors from England. For the Lady King Karitane Hospital, the matron reported that eight babies had been admitted, five had been discharged, and 15 were in residence. Five mothers had been admitted to the mothers’ cottage, and five had been discharged. AUSTRALIAN CLUB NEW MEMBERS WELCOMED Many new members were welcomed by Mr J. Cooper at a social held by the Australian Club in Hay’s lounge. Mr Cooper also took the opportunity to bid farewell to Mr R. Wright, who will leave shortly for Melbourne, and expressed a hope that he would benefit in health as a result of the trip. Cards were played, the winners being Mrs Williamson, Mrs Huggins, and Mr Thurston. CROCKFORD’S CLUB The second evening’s play of a threenight Mitchell match at Crockford’s Club, resulted as follows: —North and South: Mrs C. M. Hill and Miss E. Aitken 1, Mrs F. Moginie and Mrs A. Cork 2, Mrs M. E. Pipe and Mrs A. S. Geddes 3. East and West; Mrs K. Stewart and Mrs P. A. Ardagh 1. Mr H. P. V. Brown and Mr A.' Hunnibell 2, Mrs H. H. Wauchop and Mrs S. C. Dixon 3. COMING-OF-AGE PARTY Many friends gathered at the Suburban Hall, Kaikoura, when a dance was held to celebrate the twenty-first birthday anniversary of Mr F. Mclnnes. Mrs Sabiston's Band supplied music for the dancing.
