Professor L. G. Pocock (Brown’s road), who has been visiting relatives in South Africa, and Mrs Pocock, who has been spending a few months in England, will return to Christchurch on Tuesday morning. Miss A. Buckley (Leinster road), president of the Christchurch branch of the Registered Nurses’ Association, is visiting, Wellington on association business. She will return to Christchurch early next week. Sir George and Lady Shirtcliffe have returned to Wellington after a visit to the Southern Lakes and Christchurch. Mrs Philip Levy (Banks avertue, Shirley) left last night by the steamer express for a holiday visit to Wellington. Miss Olive Mcllraith (Merivale lane), who attended the recent girl guide conference in Hastings, will return to Christchurch early next week. Mr and Mrs Walter Baxter (Bristol street), whose marriage took place in the North Island last week, will leave to-morrow by the Empire Star on a trip to Great Britain. Mrs J. D. Sievwright, who has been the guest of her daughter, Mrs A. H. Tocker, Murray place, for the last six weeks, returned to Wellington last evening. Mrs Tocker accompanied her north on a short visit. Dr. Muriel Bell arrived from the north yesterday morning by the steamer express. Mr and Mrs J. Mowbray Tripp (“Silverton,” Geraldine) will leave to-day for a short visit to Dunedin. Miss Joan Cuningham, who has been spending a few days with Mrs D. J. Morrow, Montalto, has returned home. Miss Joy Bridgewater (Urunga avenue) returned to Christchurch on Wednesday after spending three months in Sydney on her way back from a trip to England. . Mr and Mrs Jack Glasson (Fendr.lton) will be visitors to tVie "Lodge, Hanmer Springs, for the Simes golf Cup contest to be held during the week-end. Miss Rona Allen (Dunedin) is visiting her sister, Mrs W. H. Montgomery, Wairewa, Little River. Miss Olivia Spencer-Bower (Swannanoa), Miss Sylvia Fox (Christchurch), and Miss Anne Harper (England) are visiting Dunedin. ‘ Mrs Lyndon Macassey (Dunedin) is spending a fortnight’s holiday as th .l guest of her mother, Mrs A. J. Chrystall, “Willowbank,” Temuka. Mrs H. G. Sutton, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs J. G. Herdman, Papanui road, will return tomorrow to Invercargill and will leave on Sunday for her new home at Alexandra. Mr and Mrs R. Cunningham (Waimate) left yesterday to visit Mrs Angus Macdonald, of Plains Station, Southland, who is at present staying at Riverton. ' Mrs R. A. Ewing (Dunedin) arrived from the south yesterday to spend a short holiday in Christchurch and Akaroa. The Misses Barker (Christchurch) art-' visiting Miss Downie Stewart, Dunedin. The Hon. T. O’Byrne and Mrs O’Byrne left Invercargill yesterday for Wellington, where they will stay for a few days before going to Russell. Tribute was paid to the late Mrs A. I. Fraer by Bishop West-Watson speaking at the annual meeting of the Te Waipounamu School for Maori Girls yesterday. Bishop WestWatson referred to the great loss that the school and the whole of Christchurch had suffered. Mrs Fraer was not only one of the most outstanding figures in civic life, but had probably done more than any • other person in the South Island for the native race, he said. This association was commenced at the founding of Te Waipounamu at Ohoka in 1909 and had been continued ever since. The council would never forget that it was only through the determination of Mr and Mrs Fraer that the school had been carried through its difficult days. A message of condolence to her relatives was passed, the whole assemblage standing in silence as a tribute to her memory. The Thinking Day service for girl guides will be conducted by the Rev. H. M. W8229 FREE KINDERGARTENS CHILDREN ON WAITING LIST A meeting of the committee of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association was held this week, Mrs E. •Hitchcock presiding in the absence of the president, Mrs H. T. J. Thacker. Sympathy was expressed with' Mrs Thacker in her illness, and the hope expressed that she would soon be restored to health. Comprehensive reports were received from the principal and the eight kindergartens controlled by the association. The reports showed that all the kindergartens had a full quota of pupils, and many had waiting lists. It was decided to hold the annual meeting in April, at the new kindergarten recently opened at Woo’ston. Other routine business and the presentation and passing of accounts concluded the meeting.
