ATHLETICS

PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ SPORTS BOYS’ SECTION WON BY ST. ALBANS SIXTEEN HUNDRED CHILDREN PARTICIPATE

Sixteen hundred children from 27 schools took part in the annual sports of the Canterbury Primary Schools’ Sports Association at Lancaster Park yesterday afternoon. A long programme of boys' and girls’ events was put through by teachers under the direction of Mr E. M. Todd (secretary). Competition among the schools in the boys' events was keen, the result being in doubt until the Jumping events were completed at the end of the programme. St. Albans was placed first with a total of 36 points. North Linwood being run-ners-up with 32 points, and Fendalton in third place with 24 points. Fendalton gained a decisive victor}' in the girls' events, securing a total of 561 points. New Brighton was second with 27 points, and Elmwood third with 13 points.
