FIRST ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATED
| The Linwood “Y" Young People’s f Christian Temperance Union celebrated 1 its first birthday this month by a I church parade at the Linwood Baptist V Church. The young people took charge
of the first portion of the service. The greadier, the Rev* L. P. Bryqn (Ashurton) spoke Op physical fitness and temperance, Noelfne Hale read the Scripture lesson, and duets were sung by Misses Anderson and Beck, also Miss Reid and Mr T. Reid, the latter also singing a solo. The'celebrations were concluded on Monday night by a social for “Y" members and their friends. The Mayoress (Mrs R. M. Mac-far? lane), who spent the early part of the evening at the social, was presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers by
Noeline Black (honorary secretary). Greetings were read from neighbouring branches. Mrs Harry Robinson sang a solo, the Rev. W. W. French gave two humorous items, and Mr T. Reid sang a solo. Games and community singing were also enjoyed. The birthday cake was put by Mrs C. R. N. Mackie (“Y” superintendent). Two new members were received.
