LYTTELTON NEWS
PERSONAL I ■ Miss Norma Dennis, Auckland, is spending a holiday with Miss B. Ryder, London street. New YVar’s Eve New Year’s Eve at Lyttelton passed fairly quietly. Luring the evening there was a desultory fusillade of fireworks, which reached a climax at midnight. The only other noise was the deep booming of the siren of one of the overseas ships in harbour. On Sunday, the Japanese motor-ship Canberra Maru was dressed in flags in honour of the New Year. Big Crowd at Beaches The first really big holiday crowd this season was attracted to Lyttelton yesterday by the hot weather. The Railway Department ran extra trains and there were large numbers of bathers at Corsair Bay and Diamond Harbour.
