WORK OF DEFENCE LEAGUE
“FULLEST SUPPORT OF INDIVIDUALS’’ (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON, July 29. Discussion of the attitude of returned soldiers toward the New Zealand Defence League was reopened at the annual meeting of the counci of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association to-day. The discussion was taken in committee, and upon resuming in open meeting, tn vice-president, Mr B. J. Jacobs, a - nounced that the following resolution had been carried unanimously: “In view of the fact that the bar publication of the rejection by this council of a remit proposing to express our accord with the objects o the New Zealand Defence League and our co-operation with that league may give rise to a wrong impression, this conference desires (1) to assure the executive of the New Zealand League and its members that the decision was purely on principle, that the close affiliation proposed by the remit was an unnecessary provision, and, further, that the balance of our resolutions was considered as being a satisfactory endorsement of the worn of the league; (2) to express its utmost sympathy with and appreciation of the efforts of this citizen body (the New Zealand Defence League) to keep before the people of New Zealand the vital urgency and importance of adequate defence measures, as indicated in our own resolutions, and its confident anticipation that the fullest support of individual returned soldiers
