Mr and Mrs C. W. Webber (Kitchener square) will attend the New Zealand Law Society’s conference in Christchurch next week. Miss Elsie Oddie (Christchurch), formerly of Timaru. left yesterday on a visit to England. Mrs Guinness (“Galashiels,” Sefton street) will leave to-day on a visit to Christchurch. Miss Macdonald (Waikuku) is the guest of Mrs J. He ns haw (Selwyn street), , , _ , ' Mr and Mrs J. Fraser ("Dusky,” t-nkp Pukaki) have returned home after a visit to Mrs H. H. Fraser <Waiiti road). ■ . Miss Mary CUfton-Mogg (Christchurch) and Miss Enga Wasbbourn (Nelson), who were the guests of Mrs F. I. Washboupi (“Wichenford,” Grant’s road), have left for Christchurch. Mrs Fowler, who was the guest of Mrs F. F. A. Ulrich (Elizabeth street), has left for Christchurch. She will leave early next month on her return to her heme in Ceylon.
Cleopatra’s Needles were not made by or in honour of Cleopatra. Cleopatra lived and died in tne first century B.C. * Both “needles”—one in London and one in New York—were, according to their inscriptions, made about 1600 8.C., in the reign of Thotmes 111.
