ORANGES FOR SOUTH ISLAND
SHORTAGE OVER EASTER LIKELY
(PBESS ASSOCIATION TCLCGBAM.)
AUCKLAND. April 12
Because a berth was not allotted today to the Port Line .steamer Port Hunter, which-arrived in the morning from Antwerp by way of Kingston, Wellington and the So.uth Island will be practically without supplies of oranges over the Easter period. The vessel has 6000 cases of’ Jamaican oranges on board, and these would have served to relieve the shortage now existing in the south, particularly In Wellington. Strong criticism of the fact that the vessel has not been given berthing facilities was made by members of the wholesale fruit trade. About half of the oranges are for Wellington, and the rest are to be shared between Auckland and the South Island.
