NEW ZEALAND AMATEUR’S SUCCESS VICTORY IN AIR ,FORCE TOURNAMENT
(IHI PRESS Special Service.] WESTPORT, April 12. Competing as a middle-weight Acting Pilot Officer Alan Deere, formerly of Westport and Wanganui, won his section in the Royal Air Force boxing tournament in England. His headquarters are at Netheravon. This advice was received by the Westport representative of “The Press” in a letter from Mr J. T. Deere, of Wanganui. the father of Pilot Officer Deere. Following his success in the tournament Deere was selected to represent the Royal Air Force against London universities and beat his opponent, a South African graduate, by a technical knock-out in the third round, after a torrid second round. Deere, as a result of these efforts gained selection in the Royal Air Force team to tour South Africa this year. He -has had nine wins for as many bouts in England. Deere competed successfully in tournaments in Westport, Wanganui, and other parts of New Zealand before .leaving tat ntngiand last yeas.
