THE WEST COAST HOCKEY
ASSOCIATION
In recognition of his services to hockey .ind his completion of three terms as president, Mr K. E. Balchin was elected a life member at the annual general meeting of the West Coast Hockey Association, held on Monday night. Mr Balchin presided. A ground was available at_ Hokitika and a team would be xiominated in this year’s competitions by Hokitika, stated Mr W. Ryan. The opening day of the competitions was fixed for the first Saturday the ground was available, teams to be nominated not later than Wednesday, April 20., A recommendation was adopted that the team to play the Indian team be selected as early as possible, arid that efforts be made to secure night training for the team. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr S. Burnett White; president, Mr W. J. Butler; vice-president. Mr W. E. Newton; secretary, Mr P. F. Allen; treasurer, Mr J. A. YOungson; honoiary vice-presidents, Messrs J. O’Brien, M.P., A. H. McKane, Jas. Stapleton (Hokitikal, W. J. Hardie, G. M. Truman, C. H. Withell, J. McGrath, T. O’Calirghan, T. C. Heaphy; delegate to New Zealand Hockey Association, Mr IJsrold Throp (Christchurch).

British Develonpment (N.Z.), Ltd., special dredging claim, 200 acres, Block 7, Mawheranui S.D., 21 years.—Recommended for consent of Minister for Mines. , Mary E. Hogan, ordinary prospecting licence, 20 acres, Block 15, Amold S.D.—Granted subject to existing rights. George Theodore Saunders, extension of time to commence work on special river claim, up to and including September 30, 1938.—Granted.

CHAMPIONS
By beating the Millerton team, the Westport Tennis Club’s A team won ibe Buller Association’s competition for the Cecil Walker Cup. They were not beaten and against Millerton won by 16 sets to 1. The team which played the last game was Messrs L. Hobbs, G. Martin, R. Naylor, A. Metson, H. Lockcy. and H, Greenwood, Mesdames B. Seyb, L. Hobbs, and Misses A. Pain, E. Suisted, and J. Marr. C. F. Schadick, a regular member of the team, was unavailable, and A. Metson substituted.
WESTPORT FIRE BRIGADE TO VISIT LYTTELTON
A team representing the Westport Fire Brigade will visit Lyttelton during the Easter week-enid to compete in a demonstration there. The party will comprise Deputy-Superintendent W. Phibhs, Senior Foreman W. Jones, and Firemen S. Daily, H. Taylor, and W. Jenkin. The visit is a return to that of the Lyttelton Brigade to Westport last year.
