OFFICIAL FORECASTS

[THE PRESS Special Sendee.) WELLINGTON, April 12. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: — Winds turning to moderate to strong southerlies. Weather cloudy to overcast, and some rain probable. Temperatures cooler. Seas rather rough. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate to strong northerly winds, turning during Wednesday morning to southerlies. Weather unsettled, and with some rain, but later improving. Temperatures becoming eooier. Seas rather rough, but later moderating. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is;— Weather cloudy to overcast, and with scattered rains in most districts, some heavy (alls on the west coast of the South Island, but little in eastern districts of the North. Temperatures mild at first, but a cool change advancing over the South Island. A series of shallow westerly depressions has been advancing across the sooth Tasman Sea, and pressure has fallen over the Dominion. Over southern Tasmania it has risen considerably, but depressions are located over southern New South Wales and the north-west Tasman Sea.

Winds—Moderate to strong northerly to north-westerly from Canterbury and Westland northwards, reaching gale force at times in the Cook Strait area, moderate to strong south-west to southerly in the far south, and gradualy extending over most of the South Island.

Seas (New Zealand waters) —Rough in the Cook and Foveaux Strait areas, rather rough to rough south of Kawhia, moderate to rather rough north of East Cape, elsewhere slight to moderate; but rising south of Kaikoura. Eastern Tasman Sea—Moderate to strong north-east to easterly winds in the northern half, and south-east to southerly in the southern; seas rather rough to rough. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was dull, with short intervals of sunshine. The maximum temperature during the day was 64.8 degrees. At I o’clock this morning the sky was cloudy and light rain was falling. The temperature was 49 degrees. The barometer, rising, registered 30.15 inches. A moderate south-west wiAd was blowing. The barometer fell fairly sharply, with a reading at 5 p.m. of 30.11 inches. Wellington: The weather yestersay was cloudy, and at times threatening, with a fresh to strong north-westerly breeze. Temperatures were mild, the maximum being 67.4 degrees. The barometer read 29.944 inches at 3 p.m. Dunedin: The weather yesterday morning was fine, with bright sunshine; but the sky became dull in the afternoon, and heavy showers fell.
