HAPPINESS WITHOUT MONEY

1 «0 TUB BDITOB OF TBB PSBM. Sir,—ln all this talk of money in relation to the Prime Minister's plan for helping the people I wonder if anyone ever considers if it would be possible to live happily without money. I k maintain that it is the onlv solution *o ' the world's unhappiness. and ask any interested readers to tell briefly why a proposition such as I suggest should not be possible. I If a community of people—all those . who desire peace and happiness for . their brother man as well as for them- , selves—got together and gave all they | had (by all I mean their talents, literally themselves) this would be a so- .' lution to the present misery of so . many people—a common store-house, • to be drawn from by all of the comt munity who were giving their services for the good of all members, i The greatest feature of this, venture - would be recognition of the fact that I we-are not all alike and that our par- , ticular talents must be exercised. . The ancient physicians never said to a patient: "Where is the pain?" but '•'When were you born?" Man—always 1 used in the generic term—must be con- ' sidered astrologically. This gives the I clue to his particular gift. In this age the child is being made to fit the bed : Instead of the bed the child. Education has a uniform standard, regardless of I individual idiosyncrasy, capacity, pre- . dilection. or aptitude. The wishes of 5 a child are the foundation of character . and development, and should be careI fully studied before being suppressed. I It is the suppression of these perfectly normal inclinations which causes [ most of the neuroses and psychoses of : to-day. ,' " * j Such a community as I suggest need be no Utopian dream, but a living reality as soon as Man recognises the fact that we progress by our duty to our fellowmen.—Yours, etc., M. G. DAVIES. April 8. 1938.
