AMENITIES AT NEW BRIGHTON
TO THE EDITOR OF THE PRESS. Sir, —On page 8 of--' Wednesday’s issue is an article containing a report of the proceedings at a deputation from the New Brighton Borough to the Hon. H. T. Armstrong. The Minister said: “The amenities at the seaside might well be the concern of the Public Works Department. At least
something should be done on a large scale to relieve New Brighton of its present responsibilities. We will be sorry later that we did not do it when the going was good.” “The sky is the limit,” says the Prime Minister. "Go for your life while the going is good” is evidently Mr Armstrong’s slogan. I wonder what the Minister meant when he made that remark. Is he visualising the fate of the Government on election day. or a fall in the national income, or what? I think that the electors are entitled to an explanation. They say that “if you put a beggar on horseback he will ride it to heath.” and it seems to me that the Government’s policy is somewhat on those lines. “To hell with poverty, we’ll kill a duck. The latter may “have whiskers on it. ’ but it is particularly appropriate following the Minister’s amazing statement m regard to the “amenties at New Brighton.”—Yours, etc., HmAM HUNTER . February 28, 1938.
