FREIGHT HAULED THROUGH OTIRA TUNNEL A substantial increase in the freight hauled through the Otira tunnel last week, as compared with the corresponding week last year, is recorded. A total of 15,001 loos was hauled from west to east. Last year the total was 13,115 tons Thv. increase is 1885 tons- In 1936. the corresponding total was 12,6"5 tons

Me lag eart was chosen ■ to represent the branch at the national conference of the party, to be held in Wellington at Easter. The balance-sheet, showing a satisfactory credit, was read and of officers resulted:— president, Mr H. Johnson; vice-presi-dent Mr T. F. Williams; secretary, Mr W Duggan; treasurer, Mr T. E. FAREWELL PARTY AT $ REEFTON Mrs T. Russell, who has been for many years a member of Knox Presbyterian Church. Reefton, was met on Sunday night after the evening service and entertained by church members and adherents before her departure for Westport. She was presented with a crystal scent bottle and an electric toaster.
