NAZI DEFIANCE IN AUSTRIA
Forbidden Emblems Flaunted SCHOOLS SHUT TO STOP PROPAGANDA (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION —COPYRIGHT.) (Received March 1, 7.5 p.m.) LONDON, February 28. The Graz correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph” says that Styria is now an Austrian province where Government orders wait on Nazi permission. One man in seven, one schoolboy in three, and one woman in 15 openly wear the forbidden swastikas. One person in 12 wears the Fatherland Front badge. The streets until Sunday were filled with hawkers selling swastika badges and Hitler postcards. Men and women who refused to buy were insulted. A stationer’s windows were crammed with pictures of Nazi demonstrations which were not reported in the Vienna papers. The schools are closed to prevent Nazi teachers from spreading propaganda among children.
