LARGE ENROLMENT OF STUDENTS
CANTERBURY COLLEGE
YEAR BEGINS
BOARDING ESTABLISHMENT UNUSUALLY FULL
An unusually large number of studenis has enrolled at Canterbury College for the new academic year, which began yesterday. Last year the enrolments were much larger than for some time, but already the 1937 figures have been exceeded. The figures are not yet complete, for students are allowed up to 10 days after the beginning of the term in which to enrol. The number of "freshers.” or students enrolling for the first lime, is 96 more than it was last year, being 186 compared with 90. The next 10 days are expected to show a considerable addition to the enrolments of students of all years. The college boarding establishments are filled nearly to capacity—a contrast with the position a few years ago when the decline in numbers aroused fears that they might have to be closed down. Helen Connon Hall, with 70 women students, has about as many as it can cater for, and Rolloston House, with 55 men students, is in a similar position. The number of students seeking accommodation at College House has been so large that many have had to go elsewhere.
