£IOO FINE ON GAMING CHARGE

POLICE SEIZE BETTING MATERIAL (PUSS ASSOCIATION TELEOBAM.) PALMERSTON N., February 28. 1 The, Magistrate (Mr J. L. Stout) this morning imposed a fine of £IOO on Hughie James Trask, a labourer, for using premises in Rangitane street as a' common gaming-house. Police evidence showed that while they were on the premises several inquiries over the telephone about bettiqg were answered by detectives, who also seized a quantity of betting material. Apparently they were doing things in great style, said Detec-tive-Sergeant Meiklejohn. Stanley Ernest Thompson, a greengrocer, charged with using the same premises as a common gaming-house, was remanded to March 7.
