OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON. February 24. The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, rind dealing with the 24 hours following . the time of issue, is as follows; Moderate to strong north-west-erly winds prevailing and , reaching gale force In places. Weather ' changeable, with occasional rain and some heavy falls In the western ranges. Temperatures warm. Seas rough north of Kalkoura; elsewhere slight to moderate. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Moderate to strong north-west-erly winds prevailing, and at times reaching gale force. Weather, cloudy to overcast, with intermittent rain: some heavy falls probable. Temperatures warm. Seas rough.

DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:— Weather mainly fair to cloudy at first in eastern districts north from Canterbury, but otherwise unsettled, with rain at times in most districts and some heavy falls in those with a westerly aspect. Temperatures warm. The recent anticyclone is passing away eastwards ahd an extensive depression covers the Tasman Sea. Pressure is very low from Tasmania to Southern New Zealand. Winds—North-easterly in the far north; elsewhere northerly to northwesterly and later backing in places tft westerlies: force moderate to strong generally and rising to gale at times in places about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rough south of Cape Egmoirt and about Cook and Foveaux Straits; elsewhere slight to moderate.

Eastern . Tasman winds from between-north «nd west, reaching gale force in places. Seas becoming rather rough lo rough in the northern portion and rough in the central and southern portions.
