MAGISTRATE'S COURT

WEDNESDAY (Before Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M.) REMANDS GRANTED Arthur Redmond Callender was charged that with intent to defraud he obtained £2 11s from Frederick James Kent by falsely representing that a cheque oh the Bank of New Zealand signed R. G. Calder for £7 11s was a good and valid order. He was remanded to appear on February 28. Edward Harold Bloxam (Mr W. F. Tracy) was remanded until March 3 on a charge of having indecently assaulted a female on February 22. Bail was fixed at £2OO, with one surety of £2OO, and he was further ordered to report daily to the police. FAILED TO PAY FARE Jack MacKenzie, for failing to tender the proper fare to a tramway moiotman, was fined Is and ordered to pay expenses. Mr 3. D. Hutchison appeared for the Christchurch Tramway Board. ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY CASES Frederick Morgan, Leslie Mclntosh, and Louis McGregor were charged with using a drag net to take trout in Lake Ellesmere. They pleaded guilty, and each was fined 20s and was ordered to pay costs. Mr M. J. Gresson appeared for the North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society. Joseph Green was fined 20s and ordered to pay costs for fishing in the Selwyn river without being the holder of a licence. Richard Eddy, for being found in possession of swan eggs at Lake Ellesmere, was fined 20s and was ordered to pay costs. A charge of illegally setting a net for trout in the Kaituna river, brought against Jack Christensen and Alfred Roland Stephens, was dismissed. Mr K. G. Archer appeared for the two defendants. DRUNKENNESS Samuel Robert Prisk, convicted of a fifth offence of drunkenness within six months, was fined 20s, in default seven days’ imprisonment. IMPRISONMENT SENTENCE Joseph Edward Blake, an inmate of the Salvation Army Home at Addington, was charged with stealing a suitcase and contents, valued at £lO, the property of Alec Donald Ingles. It was stated that Blake, with another man, had gone with the complainant into the Shades Hotel, where the complainant was persuaded to leave the suitcase. Blake and his companion later picked the suitcase up and sold it to a second-hand dealer for 15s.

Blake was sentenced to imprisonment for three months.
