HEAVY FLOODS IN HUNGARY

VILLAGERS MAROONED ON

HOUSETOPS

(Received November 15, 9 p.m.)

BUDAPEST, November 15

Unprecedented rainfall and disastrous floods in the Borsod county have destroyed bridges, homes, and dams. As a snowstorm in the last 24 hours has been followed by a thaw, more serious destruction is threatened.

Thousands are homeless. All ablebodied persons are aiding the military in the rescue work by torchlight. Many refugees fled to the hilltops and spent the night praying in the churches dominating the villages. Part of the city of Miskolo is submerged. People are using wooden troughs to rescue other marooned sufferers from the house tops.

Fifty villages and thousands of acres are flooded and a large number of cattle have been killed.
