COMMONWEALTH ELECTIONS
LABOUR WINS MOST OF SENATE VACANCIES SIR GEORGE PEARCE LOSES SEAT (Received November 12, 8.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, November 12. It now appears certain that Labour has won 16 of the 19 Senate vacancies. Senator G. Brown was re-elected for Queensland, and the re-election of his two colleagues is considered beyond doubt. The Government has won the third South Australian vacancy, Mr K. Wilson being elected. With 17 Senators who did not retire, the Government will have a following of 20 in the new Senate. On completion of the count, the fourth Labour candidate from New South Wales, Mr W. Ashley, was elected. Labour also won the two remaining vacancies in Western Australia, Messrs J. Fraser and R. Clothier being elected. Sir George Pearce (Minister for External Affairs) and Senator P. J. Lynch, the president of the Senate, were defeated.
