DUCAL ESTATE FOR NATION
♦ PURCHASE OF LARGE PROPERTY IN SCOTLAND (BBITISH OFFICIAL WIBELESS.) RUGBY, November 11. A castle, six villages, and 90,000 acres of land in Scotland, including seven famous grouse moors, 449 farms and small holdings, and 3764 acres of woodlands, have been purchased by the Commissioners for Crown Lands from the Duke of Richmond and Gordon. The property forms the greater part of the Duke's estates in Morayshire and Banffshire, and covers about 140 square miles. The Commissioners have purchased the property as a permanent investment, taking over the estates as a going concern. The purchase price is not disclosed. The tenants will not be disturbed and the employees will be retained. The Duke, who parted with the property with great reluctance, states that increasing taxation and death duties compelled him to do so.
