THE JUBILEE
Eleanor Tomlinson, Brookside, writes of a school jubilee. The pupils do seem to have had a good time. Eleanor says ; On Sunday afternoon a service •was held in the school, and on Monday the present pupils were given an ice cream each, and were then taken out into a paddock adjoining the school. There they -waited for the aeroplane from Sockburn. When it arrived it circled round the field several times, and then every time, as it came over, it dropped streamers. The children ran all over the place after, these. The streamers were just pieces of blue and white material sewn together. At the end were little lead animals. Later, former pupils were entertained at afternoon tea, followed by a toast list In the evening a ball was held in the schoolroom. We had no school on Tuesday, but started again en Wednesday.
