SHIPYARD ENGINEERS ON STRIKE

* DISPUTE OVER SPECIAL MARGINS JUDGE'S THREAT IGNORED BY WORKERS (Received September 17, 11.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 17. Engineers employed at the Cockatoo and Morts docks decided to strike for a month because of a dispute about the special margin allowed for ship repair work. Mr Justice Beeby, of the Federal Arbitration Court, had ordered the men to return to work by Monday next, failing which he would revoke the clause in their award allowing the special margin of 3s a week for ship repairs. The men to-day ignored the judge's threat and served fresh demands on their employers. About 240 engineers are involved.
