SHOP WORKERS' WAGES
Australian Court's v Decision ;WOMEN TO BE PAID MALE RATES (BXriTO PBISS ASSOCIATION —COPTRIGHT.) (Received September 17, 8.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, September 17. The New South Wales State Industrial Commission, in a tentative award covering shop assistants, provides that the male rates of wages are to be paid to all assistants employed in any shop, department, or section of a shop, selling groceries, male clothing, hardware, furniture, manchester goods, wireless sets and equipment, motor accessories, and cooked provisions. An employer may employ all female assistants in the sale of women's garments, baby wear, fancy goods, toys, cakes, and flowers. In other departments, except small shops, not less than 50 per cent, of the shop assistants must be males.
