Miss Thelma Green (St. Albans) left by the steamer express last night en route for Ohakune, where she will be bridesmaid at the Sneyd-Clemett wedding on Monday. Mr A. H. Boyes, the newly-electcd president of the New Zealand Dental Conference, and Mrs Boyes (Wanganui), who have been visiting Christchurch, left for the north last night. Miss Moore-Wright (Has'.ings), who has been the guest of Mrs Alexander Paterson, Cashmere Hills, for the dental conference, left for the north last night. Miss B. A. Johns is the guest of Mrs Harris, Papanui. and will leave on Tuesday for Auckland to join the Rangitane on September 23 for England. At the annual meeting of the Christchurch Free Kindergarten Association, a motion of sympathy with Mrs A. S. Adams in the death of her husband. the Hon. Mr Justice Adams, was passed. Miss Esme Eliott, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs Huntly Eliott (St. Albans), will leave Christchurch to-night for Wellington, where she will spend several days visiting friends before returning to Auckland. Mrs J. S. Bowie (Chester street) has received a cablegram from her son and daughter-in-law, Mr and Mrs J. Hallin Ford, who live in Shanghai, reporting that they are safe and well. Mr and Mrs Ford were married in Christchurch two years ago, and have since been living in Shanghai, Mrs Eric Rickard (Napier), who is visiting her father, Dr. Alfred Sandston, will leave for the north to-night. Mrs F. O’Brien (Eversleigh street, St. Albans) has returned from a visit to Auckland and the King Country, Miss Nan Pattullo (Edinburgh, Scotland) is visiting Mrs H. E. Field, Hackthorne road, Cashmere. Miss Mary Reeves (Dunedin), who has been paying a short visit to Miss Betty Trewin, Gracefield avenue, returned home yesterday. Both Miss Trewin and Miss Reeves returned this week from a trip to the South Sea Islands. Mrs G. Smith and Mrs E. S. Chambers have returned to Ashburton after a holiday spent at New Plymouth and Feilding, Mrs Welton Hogg and Mrs Alan Park (Lower Hutt) will be visitors to Napier for the Dominion golf championship tournament beginning on September 30. Miss Kathleen Moore, who has been visiting England, returned to Christchurch yesterday. Last evening she was entertained at a complimentary dinner at Death’s. Miss Dorothy Pairman (Latimer square), who has been the guest of Miss Jean Bayley, “Alkington,” Fernside, has returned to Christchruch. Miss M. Bennett (Khandallah), who has been visiting Mrs W. A. Rowse, Rangiora, is now spending a few days with friends in Christchurch. Mrs Isbister is the guest of Mrs J. C. Bayley, “Alkington,” Fernside. At a joint convention of the North and South Canterbury branches of the Women’s Christian Temperance Unions, held at Waimate. the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—North Canterbury: President, Mrs Hall; vice-president, Mrs C. Barrell; secretary, Mrs Woodward; treasurer, Mrs Pirrett. South Canterbury; President, Mrs W. H. Robinson; vice-president, Mrs Cabe; secretary, Mrs Roy; treasurer, Mrs Gillon. A successful flag “500” party was held in the Halswell Hall under the auspices of St. Agnes School Committee in aid of the school funds. The prizes for cards were won by Miss Staples, Miss McDrury, and Mr Nolan. Ike Upper Riccarton Garden Fete has been fixed for Saturday,. November 20.
