DRAMA LEAGUE FINAL
♦ NAPIER TEAM PLACED FIRST (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) ROTORUA, September 17. The final of the 1937 competitions of the New Zealand British Drama League was held last night before a large attendance. The finalists were the Napier Repertory Players’ A team, the Palmerston North Little Theatre Society’s A team, and the Dunedin Repertory Society’s team. The Napier team, which produced the play “The Three Hundredth Performance,” was placed first. The judges. Miss Elizabeth Loe and Mr W. S. Wauchop, both referred to the high standard of the three performances, congratulating the Napier team on a particularly finished presentation. Second and third placings were not announced, but the judges indicated that there was very little between the three teams. The annual meeting of the New Zealand branch was held during the day. when the following officers were elected: —President. the Rt. Hon. Sir Michael Myers; vice-presi-dents. Lady Fergusson. Misses A. G. Kane, Elizabeth Blake, Sir George Shirtcliffe, Messrs W. M. Page, A. S. Farquhar, H. R. Tomlinson. A. J. Heighway. J. D. Swan, and Dr. W. H. Unwin; national executive. Misses Kane and Blake; secretary. Mr H. Esmond Greig; librarian. Miss B. Page; treasurer, Mr S. Natusch. Among the remits approved was one increasing the levy of Id a player in each affiliated group or society to 3d, with a maximum of £3 3s. It was decided that future annual meetings should take place in Wellington and the council indicated that an invitation from Hastings to hold the next festival finals there would be considered.
