The librarian of the Canterbury Public Library reports that among books dealing with the adventurous, pioneering days in America, a new one, "Old Jules," by Mari Sandoz, is outstanding. Another recent volume which describes the romantic development of the West is "The War of the Copper Kings," by C. B. Glasscock. New autobiographies of great interest are Frank Swinnerton's, and "My Melodious Memories," by Herman Finck. Volumes of agricultural interest just arrived include "Great Farmers," by Watson and Hobbs, and "Highland Homespun," by Margaret Leigh. New fiction includes F. M. Ford's, well-contrived story, "Vive le Roy." of the French civil war, and Phil Stong's novel of American pioneering, "Buckskin Breeches." An Australian novel of merit is Eleanor Dark's "Sun Across the Sky," and for those who enjoy "hard" American humour there is a feast in "More Than Somewhat," a volume of funny stories by Damon Runyan, ,
