HOTEL LICENCES

LYTTELTON COMMITTEE MEETS TRANSFERS AND RENEWALS The annual meeting of the Lyttelton Licensing Committee was held at Lyttelton yesterday. Those present were Messrs F. F. Rei<j, S.M. (chairman), R. Orton Bradley, W. Wales, F. Davis, and D. Mcßae. Transfers The following transfers were granted: Cave Rock Hotel, Sumner, from Alice Patterson to Donald Roderick Gillies; Heathcote Arms, Heathcote, from Jack Douglas McGregor to John Whinery Spencer. Applications Adjourned The application of Leo Augustus Kotlowski for a renewal of the licence for the Grand Hotel, Akaroa, was adjourned for three months to permit of repairs being done to the cellar. Ellen Dempsey Quested applied for a renewal of the licence for the Albion Hotel, Lyttelton. The application was adjourned for three months to enable arrangements to be made for repairs and renovations required by the Health Department. The application of Nina Armitage for a licence for the Lyttelton Hotel was also adjourned for three months, pending repairs and alterations being made to the building. Licences Renewed The following licences were renewed:—Canterbury Hotel, Lyttelton, Campbell Ernest Brown; Saxon Hotel, Lyttelton, Henry George Scott; Woolston Hotel, Woolston, Alfred James Lambert; Empire Hotel, Lyttelton, James Edmund Bisman; Ocean View Hotel, Governor’s Bay, Jack Steel- Crown Hotel, Duvauchelle Bay, Martin Henry Dunn; Marine • Hotel, Sumner, Sidney William Dean; Madeira Hotel, Akaroa, Herbert William Horatio Piper; Valley Hotel, Heathcote, Jane Margaret Round; British Hotel, Lyttelton, Duncan Cameron Mac Donald; Royal Hotel, Lyttelton, David Walter Fenton Quested; Mitre Hotel, Lyttelton, Lionel Maurice Denton; Metropole Hotel, Akaroa, Robert Allan; Bruce Hotel. Akaroa. Horace Lawton Dyer. , Accommodation licences were granted to Mary Elizabeth Packer (Whcatsheaf Hotel, Teddington) and to Henry James Bell (Hilltop Hotel, Barry’s Bay), the fees being fixed at £5 and £lO respectively. The Union Steam Ship Company was granted a packet licence for the steamer Maori and a wholesale licence was granted to Forbes (N.Z.), Ltd. f

GENERAL CONDITION OF HOTELS SATISFACTORY The annual meeting of the Kaiapoi District Licensing Committee was held at the Courthouse. Kaiapoi, yesterday. There were present: Mr H. A. Young, S.M, (chairman), Messrs G. Shipley, W. P. Spencer, J. Bryden, J. G. Yellowlees. and J. W. Barnard. The chairman said that the Health Inspector reported that all his requirements had been complied with and that the general condition of the hotels was satisfactory. There had been three convictions against licensees in the district during the year, and regarding the Bqwer Hotel, New Brighton, on which a police report had been received, the committee noted that a transfer of the licence was being arranged;— The following new licences were granted:—lslington A rms Hotel. Islington, to David Rodgers; Commercial Hotel. Kirwee, to Walter Joseph Thompson; Phoenix Hotel, Papanui, to Leonard August Jensen. Applications for renewals of publicans’ licences were granted as follows:—Belfast Hotel. Belfast, to Albert Garnet Smith: Talbot Hotel. Yaldhurst, to Claude Howard Withell; Pier Hotel, Kaiapoi. to Herbert Charles Watson: Templeton Hotel, Templeton, to John O’Grady: Mandeville Hotel, Kaiapoi. to Harold Jeffers Harrison: Darfleld Hotel. Darfield, to Neil Samuel Brookes; Kaikanui Hotel. Kaiapoi. to William Clark; Bower Hotel. New Brighton, to Albert McDonald; West Mc I tcn Hotel.
