CHRISTCHURCH PIANIST IN SYDNEY
MR ERNEST EMPSOM'S FIRST RECITAL Mr Ernest Empson, the former Christchurch pianist, who is now in Sydney, gave his first solo recital at the Forum Club recently. The "Sydney Morning Herald" in its review of the recital said that Mr Empson, a pupil of the famous Leopold Godowsky, had "a massiveness of volume verging on the terrific, particularly in the Busoni transcription of the Bach Prelude and Fugue in D Major. His programme included the Brahms Sonata in F Minor, a Chopin group, comprising a Nocturne, a Mazurka, and the Ballade in G Minor, in which he infused clever colouring, Ravel's 'La Vallee des Qlqches.' and, a Dohnsmsi gai>ricci©X.-• "
