The weather forecast for Canterbury and Marlborough, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Light to moderate but freshening north-east to northerly winds. Weather fair at first, and mild, bat unsettled conditions and rain probable after about 24 hours. Seas rough north of Kakoura, elsewhere . slight to moderate, but increasing. The following is the Dominion report:— Weather unsettled, with rain developing soon in the western and far southern portions of the South Island; elsewhere fair to cloudy at first, but dull, misty conditions and general rain probable within the next day or two. Temperatures mild. An anti-cyclone is moving eastwards off New Zealand, and an extensive and rather deep depression is approaching slowly across the Tasman Sea. , Winds—North-easterly to northerly, strong in parts of the Cook and Fo-I veaux Straits areas, otherwise light to! moderate at first, but freshening generally, and later reaching gale force at many places, a change to southerlies probable by to-morrow morning in the southern portion of the South Island. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rather rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook and Poveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising generally. Eastern Tasman Sea: Northerly winds of strong to gale force, with rough seas. j CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather in Christchurch yesterday was dull but fine, with intermittent sunshine in the afternoon. There was a very light north-easterly breeze. The maximum temperature was 56.5 degrees. At 1 o'clock this morning the sky was cloudy and a light north-easterly breeze was blowing. The temperature was 49 degrees. The barometer, falling, registered 30 inches. IN OTHER PLACES Auckland—The weather was fine but cloudy yesterday. There was a mist in the morning, but it cleared, and the sky was overcast. There was a light south-easterly wind. Temperatures were mild, and the barometer was steady at 30.30 inches. Wellington—The weather was dull and threatening, but it brightened during the afternoon. A moderate to strong squally northerly wind prevailed, throughout the day. The minimum temperature during Monday night was 50.1 degrees, and the maximum temperature yesterday was 55.3 degrees. Dunedin—There was a heavy ground fog over the city yesterday morning, and with a complete absence of wind it remained for the whole of the day. No sunshine was registered. The maximum temperature was 51 degrees, and the minimum 39 degrees. The barometer was steady until the late afternoon, when it fell slightly to 30.05 inches.
