LONDON, March 23,
The political correspondent of the "Manchester Guardian" says that Count Grandi (Italy) at a meeting of the non-intervention sub-commit-tee said: "Not a single Italian volunteer will leave Spain until the end of the civil war."
The chairman (Lord Plymouth) seemed greatly surprised. He said that the announcement created a situation of extreme gravity. He would refer the matter to his Government.
Herr Joachim von Ribbentrop (Germany) reserved his opinion on the question at present. The "Daily Telegraph" says Count Grandi expressed a personal view when he said the Italians would' jot withdraw from Spain until the end of the war. British circles are 'hopeful that his obstructive attitude can be modified.
