UNPASTEURISED MILK

TENDER ACCEPTED BY HOSPITAL BOARD

CARE TAKEN TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION

The North Canterbury Hospital Board has accepted a tender lor the supply of unpasteurised milk lor the Christchurch Public Hospital, the tuberculosis institutions, the Essex Home, and the Waltham Orphanage. A report of the finance committee stated that every care was taken at the hospital to prevent contamination; also that the unpasteurised supply had the advantage that the morning's milk waa used in the morning and the afternoon's milk was used in the evening and during the night. The report stated that the tender accepted at the last meeting of the board was for pasteurised milk delivered at the Christchurch Hospital at lid a gallon. Another tender had been for unpasteurised milk, at lid a gallon from October to March, and Is a gallon from April to September. The committee had decided that, in the circumstances, the tender for unpasteurised milk should be accepted. The supply from the tendering company had been excellent, and the milk was always satisfactory on delivery. At the Christchurch Hospital all cans were sterilised in a sterilising plant which had been installed, and they were kept in the refrigerating room until they were required to be filled and taken to the various wards, where again every care was taken to avoid contamination.
