A NAME WANTED
TO THE EDITOR OF THE TRESS. Sir,—With your kind permission I will reply to "JJM.’s” letter of to-day, after which this, rather trivial discussion is closed as far as I am concerned. First let me say that in my opinion “J.M.” is a bad loser. If he refers to my previous letter he will see that I challenged him to put the two 'suggested names without comment before any competent authority; surely this is not claiming to be ‘'the absolute arbitrator,” as he states. “J.M.” is quite in error in stating that I claim to be the son of a native interpreter. If he refers to my letter he will see that I said "I am a member of the Arawa tribe and my father was for many years interpreter for the House of Representatives and the Legislative Council.” , My connexion with the Arawa tribe I claim through my maternal side. I append hereto the name of my late father, and would be grateful if you would ascertain whether my -claim regarding him is correct or not, and would ask you to add a footnote for “J.M.’s” satisfaction.—Yours, etc., PUNGA. February. 12, 1937. [The correspondent gives us the name of his father, and the name given is that of a man who was an interpreter of Maori for Parliament. Subject to the right of reply of “Wai—l’m Stuck,” this correspondence is now closed.—Ed. “The Press.”]
