WEDDINGS

CARSON—WILLISCROFT

The wedding was celebrated recently at the home of the bride's parents, of Marjdrie Ruth, younger daughter of Mr and Mrs ,F. Williscroft (Maruia) and Brian Collingwood, eldest son of the late Mrs Carson, and of Mr G. H. Carson, of Ashburton. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. C. Dickens, of Wesley Church. Reefton, assisted by the Rev. R. Carson (Addington), brother of the bridegroom. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a frock of cream silk crepe, and an embroidered tulle veil arranged with a coronet of orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of hothouse flowers

She was attended by her sister, Miss Winne Williscroft. who wore a frock of Dale pink crepe de chine, and a picture" hat to match. Her bouquet was of pink carnations. Mr D. Carson attended his brother as best man.

For travelling, the bride wore a brown frock dress and a hat to match. She carried a brown face-cloth coat

ROBERTS—DIEHL

At the New Brighton Methodist Church, the wedding took place recently of Ena, daughter of Mrs A. Diehi (New Brighton), and Arthur William, elder son of Mr and Mrs A. H. Roberts. Avonside. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. F. Gardner Brown, and the organist was Miss D. Hull - . O V. u The bride was escorted by her brother Mr E. B. Diehl. Her trained frock of ivory crepe de chine was ruched at the hipline, and the cowled neckline was finished with clusters of orange blossom. Her embroidered tulle veil was worn with a coronet of orange blossom buds, and she carried a sheaf of cream gladioli. Miss Phyllis Cobden and Miss Maud James attended the bride. Their frocks of primrose and green taffeta respectively were made with Medici collars, stitched revers and puffed sleeves. Their wide-brimmed taffeta hats were stitched to match the stitching on the yokes and hemlines of their frocks, and they carried Victorian posies to tone. At a reception held in the Masonic Hall, New Brighton, the guests were received by Mrs Diehl and Mrs Roberts. For travelling, the bride wore a fawn swagger suit with navy blue accessories, and a hat to match. Mr and Mrs A. W. Roberts will make their home in Christchurch.

STEPHENS—OWERS

The marriage w.as celebrated recently at All Saints' Church. Methven, of Miss Norah Selina Owers and Mr Gerald Garfield Stephens. The service, which was fully choral, was performec by the Rev. H. S. Hamilton, and Mr A. J. Sheat (Dunsandel) was organist. Miss J. Compignie sang a solo during the signing of the register. The church had been beautifully decorated by friends of the bride with gladioli, dahlias, and white daisies. The bride was given' aAvay by her father. She wore a frock of ivory Nottingham lace made with a high pointed waistline and close-fitting sleeves forming points over the wrists. The bodice was finished with a posy of orange blossom at the neck, and a row of satin buttons at the back. Hei Honiton lace veil was arranged from a close-fitting cap and coronet of orange blossom, and she carried a bouquet of white begonias and maidenhair fern. „. _ ,The attendants were Misses Rona Waddington and May Fisher, cousin of the bride. They wore Nile green and lilac frocks made with pointed bodice? and full skirts trimmed with a double row of frills forming a point in front. The frocks were finished with small collars and hand-made flowers at the necks, and sashes at the waists. Their bandeaux were of gold leaves and they carried bouquets of gladioli, roses, and begonias to tone. Two little flower-girls, Misses Dorothy and Nancy Walker, nieces of the bride,' wore ankle-length frocks of cream georgette made with high waistlines and small puffed sleeves. Narrow sashes of gold ribbon extended to the ruched hemline of their skirts. On their hair they wore gold leaves and their Victorian posies were of pale pink carnations and roses The bridegroom was attended by Mr A. Sutherland (Ashburton) as best man, and Mr G. Dalton (MethvenV as groomsman. , , ! As the bride left the church she was presented with a horseshoe by little -Mona Grubb, niece of the bridegroom. A reception was held at the Town Hall, where the bride's mother received the guests. She was wearing a black, marocain frock patterned with white spots, a black silk coat, and a black straw hat trimmed with white flowers. She carried a bouquet of red roses and maidenhair fern. The bridegroom's mother wore a black and white patterned frock and a black straw hat relieved with white. Her bouquet was of shaded gold roses. When Mr and Mrs G. G. Stephens left for the north the latter was wearing a rose-pink linen suit patterned in black, and a smocked blouse. Her pink straw hat was trimmed with a pink rose and narrow black velvet ribbon and she carried a black face-cloth coat.

Mr and Mrs Stephens will make their home at Methven.

M'KINNON—HILL

At the home of Mr and Mrs Alex Hill, Little Wanganui. ' the weddih? was celebrated recently of their eldest daughter. Alma Darlington, and Neil Walker, eldest son of the late Mr and Mrs Norman McKinnon, of Wairoa, Hawke's Bay. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. L. K. Collins (Granity). The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a frock of ivory bridal satin made with a cowled bodice and panelled skirt. Her tulle vc-1 was held in place with a coronet of orange blossom, and she carried a sheaf of gladioli and roses. Miss Jessie Hill, who attended her sister, wore a frock of peach bloom georgette, made on close-fitting lines, pointed godets giving fullness at the hemline of the skirt. Her halo headdress was of pale pink rosebuds, and her bouquet was composed of pink phlox, marguerites and orchids. Mr Malcolm McKinnon, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. A circlet of orange blossom trimmed the neckline of the frock, and the skirt widened at the back to form a train. Her tulle veil threaded with gold was held in place with a gold plait, twisted with orange blossom. The bridesmaids were Misses Dorothy Undrill, the bridegroom's sister, and Edna Norman. Their frocks were of stiffened beige needlerun lace, made in princess style, and they wore toques of stitched taffeta to match, finished with eye veils and tiny posies of flowers to tone with the sheaves of apricot and flame-shadeci gladioli which they carried.
