A message from Anderson (Indiana) states that industrial difficulties centred in the guide-lamp plant of the General Motors Corporation resulted in a clash in which 10 persons were injured, and in the declaration of martial law in the city and county. - A thousand national guardsmen are taking control of the area, blockading the roads to prevent the reported influx of members of the United Automobile Workers* Union to assist the lamp workers to organise. Differences between the union and anti-union forces were responsible for the fighting.

There are growing indications that the settlement of the General Motors Corporation strike is likely to result in increases of wages, not only throughout the motor industry, but also in related industries. Packard Motors has announced an increase a! five cents an hour. Three Akron rubber companies have given increases ranging from 5 to 8 per cent.
