Club ♦ The weather was ideal for the fourth competition of the Sydenham Defence Rifle Club, held at Redcliffs on Saturday. The conditions were seven shots at 300, 500. and 600 yards, with optional sighters at each range. Following is the result:— 300 500 600

Bruning, 26. 31, 27. I — Bs. Jottings With ideal weather, some excellent scores were registered by members of the Sydenham Club at Redcliffs on Saturday. At 300' yards, D. Clayton-Mawer and S. Parks were top-scorers, each having a total of 34. At the 500 yards range F. Gaynor scored the possible, and W. Barrett and A. Webb dropped one point only. In the final shoot at 600 yards, a brilliant possible was scored by H. Barker, and A. Webb scored a good 34. The score cards read:—3oo yards: Clayton-Mawer, 5555554; Parker 4—5555455. 500 yards: Gaynor, 5555555; Barrett, 555554; Webb. 4—55455555. 600 yards: Barker, 5555555; Webb, 3 4555555 R. Neill shot most consistently to win the Christchurch Defence Club’s third three range competition on Saturday. L. G. Watkins was the winner of the Rangiora Club's sixth club competition on Saturday. The Kaiapoi Club’s third Ashby Cup competition fired on Saturday, was won by J. Johnston with a total of 96. F. Hiscock, a prominent member of the Christchurch Defence Rifle Club, has had a varied and highly successful career in rifle shooting, both in Great Britain and New Zealand.

His successes in Great Britain include the Hampshire County VIII. and XX. medals (twice won); Astor County N.R.A. medal; Hampshire County spoon; gold jewel of the Royal Marines; N.R.A. silver bowl (United Services’ challenge cup, Bisley); Royal Marine Corps VIII. badge with bars, 1922 and 1923; N.R.A. Service Rifle championship, 1922, 1923; Royal Marines Divisional VIH. badge with bars, 1922, 1923; Services championship gold medal. Bisley; Aldershot cup medals, 1920, 1923 (Blsley): “Portsmouth Times" medal: Royal Marines • Rifle Association’s medal with six bars. The most coveted trophy in this highly-prized collection is a "King’s Hundred” badge, won at Blsley in 1920. New Zealand successes include the Canterbury Rifle Association’s Fox Cup, 1933; N.R.A. of New Zealand Services silver, 1935, and the National Rifle Association’s Baston Cup and gold medal, 1936. Born in Canada, Hiscock served with the Royal Marines on active service from August, 1914, to August. 1919, and in later years was transferred to the permanent staff of the New Zealand Forces. The years in which he has been able to engage actively in rifle shooting are 1920, 1922, 1923, 1935, and 1936;
