' Mountaineers are racing by car ; from Glasgow and Edinburgh, and t gamekeepers, shepherds and ghillies from tlie mountains are gathering in . response to a summons to rescue a climber who is hanging head-down . over a 1000 foot precipice near the , summit, of Buachaille Etive Mhor, in . Argyllshire. The climber, William Christine, aged 25, set out accompanied by , three companions to climb to the summit of Buachaille Etive Mhor, the most formidable mountain in the Glencoe range. Christine slipped on a frozen ledge and disappeared over Crowberrie ridge, the most terrifying precipice in the district. His eom- , panions peered over and saw Christine half-way down the precipice. The coiled rope had apparently unwound from his shoulder during the fall, and one end was tangled in his foot. The other end '. had caught round a rock jutting from a face of the cliff. Rescue efforts failed, and the alarm was given. It is feared that rescue will be impossible before daylight. RESCUERS HAMPERED „ MIST FEARS FOR CHRISTINE'S LIFE (Received December 29, 2.10 a.m.) LONDON, December 28. It is feared that Christine is now dead. He has been suspended head downwards all night. The first rescuers had almost reached him when they were forced to abandon their efforts because of mist and darkness. They took refuge in a mountain hut. A fresh party of rescuers, including two of Christine's brothers, set out at dawn from Glencoe. They do not expect to reach the summit until noon.
