Excepting the Rakaia river, which was discoloured during the week-end, the Ashburton County rivers were in fairly good order for fishing over the holidays. There was a large crowd at Hakatere and a fair number at the Rakaia and Rangitata mouths. Some good catches were reported at the Rangitata mouth, one angler securing a bag of eight trout, in good condition, and weighing up to 51b.
