CHRISTMAS CAROLS IN ASHBURTON

♦ BAND COLLECTS RECORD SUM MORE THAN £IOO FOR CONTEST EXPENSES A record collection was made by the Ashburton Silver Band for its Christmas carolling effort this year, the sum of approximately £lO5 being received compared with £9O last year. The band completed its effort on Sunday, when several parties of carollers visited Wakanui, Pendarves, Chertsey, and Rakaia. The proceeds will be devoted to the contest expenses fund. The Ashburton Salvation Army Band visited the Ruapuna and Longbeach districts on Sundiy, and although its final figur«; are not yet to hand, its collection is higher considerably than that of last year.
