HEALTH OF THE POPE
* A DISTURBED NIGHT MANY CONGRATULATIONS ON BROADCAST (Received December 28, 12.5 a.m.) VATICAN CITY, December 27. The Pope passed a disturbed night because of intermittent pains in bis left leg, but lie slept well on into the morning. Mis condition generally is satisfactory. ! His Holiness has received hundreds of telegrams of congratulation on his Christmas Eve broadcast, which, far from exhausting, apparently stimulated him through the psychological effect of being again in touch with the outside world. An earlier message said; Hopes for the recovery of the Pope dwindled when it was reported that paralysis had extended to his entire left side. His left ann was useless, and lie, was unable to move his legs throughout the day. The Pope passed Christmas Day reading and writing. He heard midnight Mass on Christmas Eve.
