ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGE

* YOUTH REFUSED BAIL (PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAM.) WELLINGTON. December 26. Lan Gordon Cowan, aged 17, a cashier, was charged, before Mr W. P. Stilwell, S.M., to-day, with attempting to murder John McMillan, aged 79. Detective Jarrold asked for a remand until January 2. The arrest, he said, had been made yesterday afternoon by Detectives McLennan and Ritchie. The victim was to undergo an operation this morning for the removal of the bullet. In the circumstances, he did not recommend that the accused should be allowed his liberty. A remand was granted.
